After Bideawee’s annual Photos with Santa in 2014, I met Ruby. While walking through the kennels, I saw Ruby racing up and down the outside run, “playing” with other dogs as they walked by. I entered her run, threw her ball, but after 2-3 fetches, she stopped to sit at my feet. I bent down to pet her, but every time I’d stop she’d nudge my arm for more. I decided to sit, and Ruby immediately jumped into my lap, curled up, and stayed for what felt like hours. It was at this moment that I knew I needed to adopt her. I took Ruby, now Sammy, home the very next day.
She began acclimating to her new home right away. Despite a large, plush crate, Sammy slept in my bed on the pillow next to me the very first night. She maintained this position until I met my now husband, Brian, Sammy’s daddy. Sammy currently resides with Brian and me in Remsenburg in a neighborhood filled with dogs. She has frequent play dates with Bonnie and Clyde, the black labs down the street, lives in the pool throughout the summer, runs at least a mile a day with mom or dad, and looks forward to naps on our guest bed, despite having 3 memory foam dog beds throughout our house. Sammy has made our lives whole and we simply couldn’t love her more. She even accompanied us on our wedding day to the church. We are truly the lucky ones that Sammy chose us as her fur-ever home.
