Kaleb

In 2005, my then-boyfriend and I signed the lease to a new apartment in Brooklyn and decided to double down on our new beginning by adopting a dog. I didn’t grow up with pets because my father was allergic, so I didn’t know the first thing about how to care for an animal, but I soon found myself the parent of a lovable, naughty, little pit/lab/chow mix. We named this silly, gangly little boy Kaleb and the rest was history. Kaleb was everything I could have hoped for in a companion–he was loyal, playful, affectionate and loved everyone he came in contact with. And the feeling was mutual. He made such an impact on my life that I decided that I wanted to work in animal welfare, and 12 years later, that’s exactly where I am. Kaleb passed away at the young age of seven but he has left his mark on all of us who were lucky enough to know him. Love you, Kabes!
