This Month’s Features
Pet Spotlight: Rocky Roman
My husband Rick and I were looking to adopt a dog for a long time. We had been let down by other pet adoption agencies but when we arrived at Bideawee, we immediately had a good feeling. We particularly liked the policy of being able to take the pet home the same day you meet them, once all forms were completed and you were approved.
Hot Off The Press: Off The Leash With Leslie, Bideawee’s new column in Dan’s Papers
You’ve probably heard me talking for some time now about all the exciting new efforts and opportunities we have in store this year. From our new Manhattan building, to our focus on Community Initiatives, to our upcoming Gala and everything in between, we’re going full steam ahead to elevate Bideawee in the community, provide even more support to pets, and rescue even more animals in 2022! We know that in order to expand our impact, we need to attract new volunteers, adopters and donors to the Bideawee community, and I’m thrilled to say that our newest opportunity will give us the ability to do just that! On March 4th, I authored my first bi-weekly column entitled “Off the Leash with Leslie” in Dan’s Papers, the iconic East End publication. The column is a funny, lighthearted take on my observations, anecdotes and aha-moments as the President & CEO of Bideawee. I’m super excited about it, and I hope you’ll check it out at the link below.

Staff Spotlight: Mark Esquilin
My name is Mark and I’m one of the Veterinary Assistants at Bideawee’s Manhattan location. As a Veterinary Assistant, I have the privilege of being on the front lines of the rescue and rehabilitation work that Bideawee does. Every day I see and assist with animals that were rescued from unfortunate circumstances and are given the care they need to heal and become healthy, happy cherished family members. Being a part of that process is the best part of my job and it’s an honor to play such an important role in these animals’ transformations. Outside of work, you’ll find me at the gym, checking out comic book shops, or at the movies. Another passion of mine is martial arts, which I have been practicing since I was 15. If you see me around the building, please feel free to say hi and strike up a conversation (especially if it’s about Star Wars, haha, but I’m open to non-Star Wars conversation as well).
Pick of the Litter: Griffin
by Leticia Lopez, Animal Care Supervisor
My pick for staff Pick of the Litter is our gentle giant, Griffin! Griffin has been a sweet, silly, snuggly goofball from the moment he arrived at Bideawee. He was on the smaller side when he arrived, but the little guy kept growing, and he’s turned into a big boy! Griffin loves to play and doesn’t have any body awareness—he thinks he’s a lap dog! He would definitely love an adopter who takes him on long walks and trips to the park, but once he’s expended his energy, you couldn’t ask for a better cuddler.
